Winnipeg’s Classic 107 had the opportunity to chat with Harry ahead of the show. In the conversation, Harry recalls some fond memories of the early years, muses on this weekend’s festivities, and shares what’s next.

Fantasic interview of how the Gryphon Trio came to be!
Gryphon Trio is firmly established as one of the world’s preeminent piano trios. For more than 25 years, it has earned acclaim for and impressed international audiences with its highly refined, dynamic, and memorable performances. The Trio’s repertoire ranges from traditional to contemporary, and from European classicism to modern-day multimedia. It is committed to redefining chamber music for the 21st century.
Surprisingly rare instrument duo in concert: a conversation with cellist Rafael Hoekman and Simeon Rusnak on Classic 107 FM.

“True virtuosity contains both skill and wisdom. My vision for Virtuosi Concerts is of an arts space that celebrates emotional depth, social responsibility and instrumental excellence through the intimate conversation of chamber music—the music of friends.”
– Jennifer Thiessen
Dear Music Lovers,
It is my pleasure to join Virtuosi Concerts as Artistic Director.
My passion for chamber music in many forms has manifested as a vibrant career as a violist in both modern and historical performance practice and as a multi-instrumental songwriter, improviser and experimental musician. After twenty years as an independent artist based in Montreal and performing around the world, I recently returned to my Manitoba home. As Artistic Director of Virtuosi Concerts, I offer my deep love for and experience with chamber music, my tenacious drive to realize the projects I imagine, and my long-term commitment to building a dynamic, fair and relevant Canadian music scene.
My respect for the classical canon of chamber music and the musicians who interpret it is paired with a firm commitment to engage a wide range of artists with diverse stories and perspectives. True virtuosity contains both skill and wisdom. My vision for Virtuosi Concerts is of an arts space that celebrates emotional depth, social responsibility and instrumental excellence through the intimate conversation of chamber music—the music of friends.
All curious listeners are welcome to join us for performances by the exceptional invited artists who continue to define a superb Virtuosi Concerts experience. The 2021-22 concert season, expertly curated by Interim Artistic Advisor Madeline Hildebrand, includes four more concerts from January to April 2022. Each concert opens with a performance by a music student chosen through the continuing Young Artist Program. The Skywalk Concerts series aspires to return to in-person, free, noon-hour concerts at Winnipeg’s Millennium Library in the spring of 2022.
Live music provides an essential environment to experience our emotions and imaginations through the ingeniously crafted sounds and stories of others. I look forward to sharing these moments of wonder with you.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Thiessen
